Your Song Matters!

2 Nov
As you take note of your surroundings in public places, you
can't help but notice that countless people are tuned out of the
world and tuned in to listening to music.

An article entitled "Why is Music So Popular" in
the online academic magazine "The Conversation" states
that several surveys asked people what they would like to have
with them if they were marooned on a dessert island. Most
people chose music.

One of the most amazing facts about music is that it can draw
us closer to God! One of the most alarming facts is that music
can also soothe us into a place where God is the furthest thing
from our minds.

Some of today's songs are filled with statements that exalt
self, while others speak of the pleasures of lust. There are
songs that degrade women, and promote violence as well as
drug use. Songs sometimes support infidelity, promiscuity,
homosexuality. These messages all have the potential to
draw us away from our holy God.

The Bible instructs the whole earth to sing unto the Lord
(see scriptures below). You may be surprised to find that
the Bible also informs us that someday EVERYONE WILL
sing to God. “All the earth shall worship You And sing
praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name.
” Selah” (Psalms‬ ‭66:4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬).

You may say, I'm just singing along with the popular songs,
no harm done. But keep in mind that singing is a form of
worship. Also Be aware that we become like whatever we
worship (Psalm 135:18, Psalm 115:8). It's that serious folks!

What are you singing? Sing unto the Lord! Don't be deceived.
Your song does matter! For more insight: Psalm 66:4, Psalm 96:1,
Isaiah 12:5, Psalm 68:32, Psalm 98:4.
